Recapturing the Dream

Tremendously successful do what they love it really is that simple.

They are happy and usually make a lot of money because they cannot wait to continue working on their business.

That state of 'flow' makes some entrepreneurs unstoppable.

Sometimes though, people let a business that they love and have built from the ground up go, they think its time to cash in or to move to the next project and in some circumstances regardless of the payout it is the wrong decision.

You and your team sit in the office of the company that acquired you, look around and realise things have changed, you no longer have control and the dream you built seems to dwindle at the hands of others, and regret syncs in.

No regrets

If you find yourself in a boardroom some day and a lawyer pushes a big fat offer across the table, don't be afraid to push it right back!

You see while a lot of us in the startup world, including myself, are drawn to the idea that after years of pouring our hearts into a worthy project a major exit for an incredible sum of money is deserved and perhaps a successful outcome.

It can in fact be the total opposite. You find yourself sitting a desk with your old team surrounded by strangers that now control your business and guess what... they do not care about it the way you did, they have a difference of opinion on its direction and slowly that bright spark, dims and dies.

Heath Kilgour was in a similar situation only he was lucky enough to see what was happening and bought his company back and continued back on his original path.

That is... Until ESPN came knocking with a better offer :)

We are a funny breed don't you think?

Anyway, this story has a happy ending but I won't ruin it for you... Watch the video already!
