Welcome to Startup Grind Cape Town, South Africa. Cape Town is a diverse and awesome city full of life, startups, love and many a tourist ;)
Lions Head | Camps Bay Volleyball Competition
The Mother City, as it is affectionately nicknamed by locals, has brought us some of the best startups Africa has seen, including people like Adii Pienaar, David Sacks, Henk Kleynhans, Mark Forrester, Mark Shuttleworth, Nic Haralambous, Pieter De Villiers, Vinny Lingham, Willem Van Biljon etc.
They created amazing products and services like WooThemes, Yammer, Skyrove, Ubuntu, Nic Socks, Motribe, Clickatell, Yola, Gyft, Nimbula, 2Go etc.
The city is fast becoming a startup capital thanks to initiatives like the Bandwidth Barn, 88MPH startup incubator and the Silicon Cape Initiative.
Cape Town is home to the iconic Table Mountain (now 1 of the new 7 wonders of nature). It is the second most populated city in South Africa, legislative capital of the country, and has been named World Design Capital for 2014.
“After-work” activities in this beautiful city include such things as visiting wine farms, sea-side bistro's and jazz cafés. For the more adventurous, there's surfing, trail running, mountain biking, paragliding. Basically in Cape Town, there is something for everyone!
Please join us at our next event on 15 August 2013 as we chat to Nic Haralambous. Nic has had some amazing successes and is an expert on the startup process.
Nic landed VC funding for Motribe and then went through the process of a successful exit to MXIT. He bootstrapped Nic Socks on a very small budget, and he is the founder and general manager of ForeFrontAfrica.
