2019 has been a year where we've continued to push the envelope of technical innovation. Quantum Supremacy, AI starting to rival human beings, the continued advancement and belief in Blockchain technology are all things that we in the Bay Area have a unique view into. Whether we like it or not, the technology that's built here, impacts the entire world. It's time for the rest of the world to participate in conversations around technology, it's benefits, and more importantly - its implications.
Jo Sletbak, the Consul General at the Royal Norwegian Consulate General is joining us to give us his unique perspective in the role diplomacy plays in ensuring the technology we build is creating a better future for everyone, and not just a handful of people.

Jo Sletbak took up his post as Norway’s Consul General in San Francisco at the end of August 2017.
He started his diplomatic career in the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990, and has held several positions both at home and abroad. He has worked in various areas such as humanitarian and European affairs.

He started his diplomatic career in the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990, and has held several positions both at home and abroad. He has worked in various areas such as humanitarian and European affairs.
He served as Deputy Director for Balkan Affairs in the Ministry for five years. He also served as the Director of the Section for Official Visits, in the Department of Protocol for six years, where he was responsible for all high levels visits in to Norway and the Royal Family’s official visits abroad.
Sletbak has been previously been posted to the Norwegian Embassies in Athens, Bonn, Berlin and Ottawa.
Jo Sletbak holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from University of San Diego, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Communications from University of California, San Diego.
He is married and has two children.
