Mike Lanese is a co-founder and managing partner of SmartCrowdz, LLC. Based in Columbus, Ohio, SmartCrowdz is a groundbreaking technology start-up that helps build dynamic event communities through free web and mobile applications. Prior to SmartCrowdz, Mike was the Chief Executive Officer of ClearSaleing, Inc. Now part of eBay, ClearSaleing is an innovative advertising analytics company that helps large advertisers optimize their ad spend across multiple media channels. Before ClearSaleing, Mike worked for National City Bank, first as the Director of Technology for the Wealth Management division and then as the head of the Central Ohio Wealth Management practice. As Technology Director, Mike created and implemented the division's information and technology strategies. As the Regional Executive, Mike managed a group of financial professionals that provided customized wealth management solutions for high-net-worth individuals and their families. Mike has also worked as a proprietary trader for Nomura Securities, a Wall Street securities firm, and as the Chief Product Officer of Trade Point USA, one of the world's first Internet-based companies. Mike served in the United States Navy onboard USS Sterret (CG-31) as a Surface Warfare Officer, first as the Auxiliaries Officer and then as the Electronic Maintenance Officer. He currently serves as a Civil Affairs Officer in the United States Army Reserve and recently completed a deployment to Iraq. During his deployment, he worked with several U.S. and Iraqi organizations, including the Baghdad Provincial Reconstruction Team and Baghdad University, to help rebuild Iraqi civil capacity. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his performance. Mike has served on advisory boards for The Ohio State University and on the Board of Directors for the Columbus Council on World Affairs. Mike holds degrees from Oxford University, where he attended as a Rhodes Scholar, and The Ohio State University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a captain of the football team and a two-time Academic All-American.
