PJ Darling started his career in Toronto, Canada gaining more than 10 years of progressively responsible experience at Tier 1 advertising and marketing agencies in North America and the UK across various media with a number of large international clients.
PJ’s first entrepreneurial venture was as Co-Founder and Director of Sales and Marketing for Blueback, a London-based “minicab” service for which he and the Founder raised £4.4M in equity financing from angel investors in North America and the UK and achieved sales in Year 3 of operations of £7m before moving on to start his own venture.
Having moved to Scotland in 2006 in order to raise his young family and to start his own company PJ began his current venture, Spark Energy, after a year of research into the utilities and property management markets. The result has been the growth of Spark Energy as a niche utility company servicing the needs of property management firms and tenants alike across the UK. In it’s current year the company will have revenues in excess of £100m with over 200 staff.
With Spark now on a very solid footing, PJ decided to step down as CEO in early 2014 to focus on new ventures with the first new venture, TenTel (
www.tentel.co.uk), having launched in August 2014. TenTel provides phone and broadband services across the UK with a focus on residential tenants.
PJ majored in Philosophy at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, is a member of various entrepreneurial networks and enjoys a broad range of sports and country pursuits as well as aspiring to being a prolific wine collector.
