At Startup Grind Gibraltar we love to celebrate women all year long and in May we like to pay a little extra respect to the ladies.
#sgwomen are entrepreneurs, mothers, CEOs, community organisers, inventors, leaders, sisters and loyal teammates. They stand out in the crowd because of their ideas, passion, intelligence, perseverance, and can-do attitude. We want these women on our team, or better yet, leading our team. This month, our SuG Community will give a stage to these leading ladies to tell their stories and share their experiences.

Founder of BC Training Brenda Cuby is one of the most respected trainers on the Rock when it comes to Social Media and internet based Business Development. Her skills in the world of Internet and Social Media for Business are renowned within Gibraltar, having set up and advised many clients online Brenda maintains numerous clients for whom she provides an on-going support function including a number of local charities.
A certified NLP Master specialising in Wellness consultancy, combining her skills and expertise as a leading business training provider to assist individuals in achieving and maintaining optimum mental health wellness to bring about lasting and constructive change.
Passionate about training, coaching & development for individuals and companies. She is part of an organisation that not only promotes excellence in terms of trainer knowledge of their topics, but also, outstanding quality in terms of their abilities when it comes to presenting that knowledge and the skill-sets associated with those topics to delegates. BC Training is a disruptor in the world of training, we believe that regular impact training sessions have a greater effect on delivering value to our partners.
Brenda has a background in hotel management, office management, training, marketing and sales for a publishing company. She now runs a successful training company which offers over 120 courses which are available online or offline which are provided by herself and her team of excellent trainers.
In 2017 Brenda attended and spoke at the Women’s Economic Forum in Delhi where she was presented with an award for her work in training and development. Brenda regularly speaks and writes articles on local media channels; she is the Vice-Chair of Women in Business Gibraltar and on the board for the GFSB.
Brenda is the Operations Trustee for GibSams and has been instrumental in setting up this wonderful charity which is helping to provide help to those who need someone to talk to.
When she is not working she loves to spend time with her husband, three children, four dogs and 2 cats. Hobbies include cooking, walking, reading, listening to music and spending time with friends and family.
Sophie Clifton-Tucker, born and raised in Gibraltar, developed a penchant for cultures and languages whilst globe trotting after completing her bachelors and post-graduate degrees in Oxford. After 8 years away, she returned to the Rock to set up her own language school – Little English.
Whilst managing the day-to-day aspects of the school with her partner and co-owner, and amazing team of teachers, she also juggles her role as editor of The Gibraltar Magazine.
In her (rare!) spare time, Sophie helps with local events and organisations such as the Gibraltar Senior Citizens Association, and tries to keep up with her travelling.
Joanne Rodriguez is an Associate Director at Abacus Financial Services Limited. Currently responsible for business development and previously managed the trust portfolio and investment holding companies held under these structures. She undertook an extensive review of these investment portfolios and worked closely with regulated IFA’s and private banks to proactively seek enhanced investment solutions, and monitor investment performance on an ongoing basis.
Having graduated from Cardiff University with a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Business Administration and French in 2001, she has 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry, 8 of which were spent working as a Financial Adviser for Lloyds Bank in the UK. In 2006 she was approved by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) to perform a controlled function as a trainee Investment Adviser and after intensive training was awarded Competent Adviser Status in line with FSA requirements in 2007.
Relocating back to Gibraltar in 2013, she joined Totus Consulting Limited and took the opportunity to extend her financial knowledge to the offshore financial services industry, including QROPS, QNUPS, international pensions, and offshore life bonds, amongst other products and international structures.
Joanne is fully qualified to UK RDR standards, having successfully completed the Level 4 diploma of Financial Advisers in 2011. Although not acting in an advisory capacity in this role at Abacus, it does mean she is well placed to understand the technical aspects of pension and investment advice, application and administration. She can add value to the supervision and review of the financial advice procured and will be a member of the Investment Committee, assisting the trustees and the pension team in the competent and successful delivery of this pension service.
Justine Picardo is a Partner at Hassans International Law Firm in the Corporate and Commercial Department. She joined the firm in September 2007 and focuses on transactional work using Gibraltar based structures.
In 2004, Justine was part of the organising committee that arranged a three day Human Rights Symposium in Gibraltar attracting leading Human Rights activists from around the world and delivered the closing speech based on the rights of children.
Justine has just recently assisted Ian Felice in updating the Companies Act section on the 5th Edition of “Gibraltar: International Finance Centre”.
Justine completed her Bar Vocational Course in 2007 at the Inns of Court School of Law and, as a member of the Honourable Society of Middle Temple, was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2007 and Gibraltar in 2008.
Kathryn Morgan is the Director of Regulatory Operations and Director of Audit Regulation at the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission. She is an Experienced actuary with a demonstrated history of working in the insurance industry. Skilled in Enterprise Risk Management, Reinsurance, and ALM. Strong professional with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mathematics from University of Nottingham.
