About Dan Florio
Dan Florio says he is good at many things, great at none. He worked at Space Camp and Space Academy while in college. Dan studied astronomy, physics, and mathematics, but dropped out of college to become a professional massage therapist. Later he returned to college and studied philosophy and history at Northern Arizona University and the University of Swansea, Wales, but dropped out 12 units short of a degree because he was out of money. He ended up doing website and video production for a hospital in Manhattan, NY.
Eventually Dan found himself as the Lead Prototyper for Usability Studies at Microsoft Xbox in Redmond, WA. He quit to become a freelance Actionscript developer. In his spare time he started working on the RunPee website application in an effort to beef up his portfolio and improve his skills in MySQL.
He never did get very good at MySQL, but the RunPee project worked out pretty well.
RunPee started in 2008 as a website application using Flex/Actionscript and PHP/MySQL on the backend. The site went viral in the Spring of 2009, and became an iPhone app on July 4th, 2009. The app is now supported on all three major platforms: iOS, Android, and Windows mobile. RunPee has been downloaded over 1 million times and has an active user base of over 500,000.
The Chinese market version is currently under development.
RunPee is a family run business. Dan Florio handles all of the programming, business, and marketing. His mother and sister help him see over 150 movies a year to find Peetimes.
