Current member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Join us as we host a Fireside Chat with Michael Shackleton discussing Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Public Speaking & Politics. Michael is currently a partner at Shackleton and Mohapi Attorneys, a firm focused on civil and criminal litigation.
At the age of 31, he had served in every sphere of government in RSA. Former Member of Parliament in the National Assembly & City Councillor in City of Tshwane. Current member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
He possesses both LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Pretoria, where he was also the editor of the Law Faculty’s newsletter and served as a member of the Law House Executive Committee. During his LLB studies, Michael took Politics and Philosophy as subjects additional to the requirements of the degree. Michael's LLM degree is in Constitutional and Administrative Law. He was awarded a Certificate of Merit for Leadership by the university to acknowledge his service on the Student Representative Council, on which he held the Safety, Security & Facilities Portfolio.
He has been non-executive director of national debt collection company Credit Intel and was recognised as one of the Top 4 Outstanding Young Persons in South Africa by Junior Chamber International (JCI), in conjunction with Brand South Africa, in 2017. Michael is an avid public speaker and addresses national debt collection and credit law conferences on an annual basis. He is a former President of the Forum Toastmasters Club in Pretoria East as well as former Administration Manager for Toastmasters Southern Africa. He is a Distinguished Toastmaster – the highest educational level which Toastmasters can bestow. He is a former Tshwane President of Junior Chamber International - an international organisation of young professionals of which Bill Clinton and Kofi Annan are alumni. During his tenure, JCI Tshwane won the national awards for the Best Local Community Program and the Most Outstanding Local Organisation of JCI in South Africa. He currently serves on the National Board of Junior Chamber International South Africa, as General Legal Counsel. He has been named as one of the 100 young Mandelas by News 24.
