About this event

Eric will be joining us for an exclusive fireside chat with special guest interviewer Boris Mann (FullStack) on Dec. 4th. This event will also be doubling as our annual Startup Holiday Party so come prepared for the festivities! Eric Migicovsky is the CEO and founder of Pebble Technology, the company behind the Pebble smartwatch. The Vancouver born systems design engineer was in one of the first classes of students to come through the Velocity accelerator network for students with startup business ideas at Waterloo. Last year he was named Top 35 Innovators Under 35 in 2013. After incubating his idea for the smartwatch in the Y Combinator program, Eric launched a campaign on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Within two hours of going live the company's initial goal of $100,000 had been reached. After six days the project had become the most successful Kickstarter project in history, reaching over $4.7 million with 30 days still left in the campaign. Pebble has sold over 275,000 smartwatches, raised more than $10 million from close to 69,000 backers on Kickstarter in 2012 and has received $15 million in Series A funding from venture capital fund Charles River Ventures.    “As an entrepreneur, it’s dangerous to think that it’s not a good thing to share. If people become comfortable with sharing their projects and their goals, we will all accomplish them much faster.”
— Eric Migicovsky
